Segregation is important to divide recyclable wastes and non-recyclable wastes. Recyclable wastes can be reused up to an extent. There are different colors available depending upon the wastage like dark green, yellow, red, brown, orange, light blue and purple. It is advisable that people use the bins in a proper way to protect the environment and promote recycling.

A waste bin is a container for storing wastage and litter for short term, either made of metal or plastic. The heavy duty bins are available in different colors depending upon the nature of the litter. Segregation is very essential to prevent biodegradation and to helps in the process of recycling. Make sure to throw the litter accordingly. Below are the colored waste bins and the usage:
  • Dark green bins: These bins collect organic waste. Since these wastes can be recycled and reused, it is important to throw only those materials in the dark green bins. Organic wastes are vegetable skin, fruit wastes, food materials, leftover food, etc.
  • Yellow bins: The yellow colored bins are found in work places like hospitals, labs, chemical labs, clinics, factories, etc. The medical waste bins are used to segregate biomedical wastes like human anatomical wastes, tablets, syringes, etc.
  • Brown bins: It is used to collect batteries. They should be handled with a cautious mind as the nature is toxic. The mercury released by the batteries can be harmful for your health. Hence, these brown bins should be handled and installed by experts.
  • Purple bins: These are used to throw electronic waste which includes old desktops, computers, laptops, televisions and any material having electric connection. These bins should be dealt with care because electrical appliances can be dangerous.
  • Orange bins: We throw metals or any products made of metals.
